Gouqi Island is famous for its well-preserved fishing villages and cultures, the largest aquatic farm in China and the Mountain and SeaWonders (山海奇观)rock that was believed to be left by General Hou Jigao of the Ming Dynasty, who defended the south-eastern coast against the raids from wokou.
Gouqi Island incorporates nearly 400 islands known as the Shengsi Archipelago, which is purported to be the largest archipelago of China. Due to the rapid advances of its diversifying industries, many fishing villages of Zhoushan have been abandoned today. This village was once a thriving fishing settlement until the small bay couldn’t support the ever-increasing number of fishing boats. In only a few decades, the village has turned into an abandoned paradise with green ivy swallowing every former home.
